Future Leaders

Because the future is theirs

Rocky Gap volunteers hosted some amazing young women on November 12.  Girl Scouts from across the region offered an outpouring of support and love for Rocky Gap State Park at a time when the park is in danger.

Powerful Voices

Since founding in 1912, Girl Scouts have emphasized the importance of civic engagement and community leadership.

On Friday night, local scout leader Jackie McFarland rallied troops from Cumberland, Ft. Ashby, Frostburg, Midland, Flintstone and LaVale to discuss the events unfolding at their park.  These young leaders have enjoyed Rocky Gap as a safe place to explore the natural world, to gain confidence, learn skills, and to connect with positive influences - therefore, it makes sense that they wanted to rally support around this special place.

Their time was spent discussing the details around the bid to privatize public lands, writing to local leaders to express their concerns and in fellowship in the spirit of positive change.

In 2017, Girl Scouts of America launched “G.I.R.L. Agenda,” powered by Girl Scouts, “a nonpartisan initiative to inspire, prepare, and mobilize girls and those who care about them to lead positive change through civic action.” Every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader) revealed just how important Rocky Gap is to them.
